1 Then the serpent said to me: By the life of God, I am grieved on your account, for ye are like beasts. I do not wish you to be ignorant. But arise, come hither, hearken to me, and eat, and recognize the worth of that tree.
2 And I said to him: I fear lest God be angry with me, as He told us. And he said to me: Fear not. As soon as thou eatest, ye shall be as God, in that ye shall know good and evil.
3 And I opened the gate of paradise and took of the fruit and ate. And at that moment my eyes were opened and I knew that I was naked of righteousness.
4 And I wept and said: Why hast thou done this to me, that I have been estranged from my glory? And I also wept about the oath that I had sworn.
